Crochet Heart Scrubby

This pattern has taken me too long to make. Not that actually crocheting it took that long, took me about 20 minutes for the YouTube Tutorial – and that was with all the talking! No, getting in my head how to make this pattern took so long. Years long.

After publishing my first dish scrubby trio pattern collection a lady reached out to me asking where the heart pattern was. I had to really figure out what she was referring to since there was a round pattern, and two square ones. I finally determined it was from looking at one of the images of a square one draped over a pot that she perceived it to be a heart shape. These dish scrubbies were published in 2018. From her reaching out I began thinking of making a heart shaped scrubby. So, it took years.

I am not sure what made me finally come up with a pattern. Maybe realizing it is now February and Valentine’s is a short bit away. Maybe it was boredom with my scrubbies that I have been using. Whatever it was, once I sat down to figure this pattern out it did not take long to get one made.

Using remnant yarn from other patterns, this scrubby is made using two strands of yarn held together. One is Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton yarn, and the other is Red Heart Scrubby. I have used Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie before, but I prefer Lion Brand’s. It is a little lighter in weight, and I like the feel of it better. The Red Heart smoothie reminds me slightly of the cotton yarn you get on the cone, that just drags on the hook. Lion Brand’s I think is a little slicker and feels nicer, at least to me. Of course, when crocheting with the scrubby yarn it really hides what the cotton yarn feels like.

The heart is started with a crochet foundation chain. Then, you work along one side of the chain, make several single crochets in the last stitch, and work back along the other side of the foundation chain.

As you work rounds, a single crochet of 3 stitches together forms the point at the top of the heart. And, the bottom point is created with single crocheting 3 stitches in one stitch.

The YouTube video that I have created shows how to make this pattern in real time. Stitch by stitch, from beginning to end, you will see how to make this. The only thing that isn’t shown is how to weave in the ends. I guess I was too excited with how cute it turned out to film it.

Well, I hope you make some of these little crochet heart scrubbies to share the scrubby love. I’m off to make more to share. The first ones I made have been claimed by one of our girls, and the cats keep using the others as play toys. At least my love has been shared to ones I love.
