I had the idea for this pattern for a while, but it took a bit for me to work out all the details in my head. Working out mentally how each panel would be constructed took some time, and then even more time to work out the little details in real life.

How to easily construct the collar that would be fairly straight forward to make, but also look how I envisioned took a few go arounds to get the stitches to lay right. I also had to determine the edgings for the edge rows, along with the treatment for the front so that everything would lay nicely without the natural curve that stockinette wants to do.
After a few ideas of more textured and intricate patterns, I decided on simple garter stitches for where you typically would have ribbing. This gives a subtle texture change to the stockinette, and also creates a hem that won’t roll in only 6 rows.
For the front opening I wanted something that would look nice on both sides of the fabric since the collar and front opening would be seen from both sides. By doing a simple 1X1 rib over 6 stitches the opening not only has a decorative element that is easy to create, but also prevents the stockinette from rolling.

Since finishing this pattern I have found this cardigan to be so easy to wear. The worsted wool is perfect for layering, and with the collar rolling away from the neck there isn’t any itchiness. No matter if you are out and about, the refined details and versatility of what you wear it with can make you feel polished and put together. The comfort and coziness of the wool and ease of wearing also makes it perfect to wear at home with your records on.
