If you have read the blog post about my Dual Duty Scrubber here, you know that I am in the process of making our household more dish cloths. Instead of going out to purchase them I decided to make them (what is a better excuse to buy yarn!).
Of course, as a designer I couldn’t just stick to one pattern. I had to get creative. I had this idea of using the two different textures of yarn that I used in the Dual Duty in a spiraling pattern. To create this unique pattern and texture you work each yarn for only a portion of a round, switching back and forth between the yarns you are using. By switching back and forth between the yarns you create the spiraling pattern.

A pretty fun pattern to make as you watch the colors and texture start swirling. Hopefully this will add a little bit of joy to washing dishes also.

Crochet Hook: H 8(5.00MM)
Dish cloth measures 5 ½ ” dia.
1) With solid yarn: Ch 5. Sl st in 1st ch to form loop.
Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc). Dc 9 in loop. Make a large loop to hold stitch and remove hook to change to other yarn (repeat this for each yarn change).
2) With textured yarn: Create a slip knot on hook. Sl st into beginning ch loop. Ch 2 (counts as a dc). 3 dc in beginning loop.
In the top of the first dc of solid yarn 2dc with the textured yarn. 2dc in each of the next 7 sts.
3) With solid yarn: 2dc in next 7 st of textured yarn. *Dc, 2dc in next st.* Repeat 3 more times.
4) With textured yarn: 2dc in next 3 st of solid yarn. *Dc, 2dc in next st.* Repeat 6 more times.

7) With solid yarn: *2dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts.* Repeat 6 more times. *2dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts.* Repeat 6 more times.
8) With textured yarn: *2dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts.* Repeat 6 more times. Sc 3, sl st 1. Bind off.
9) With solid yarn: *2dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts.* Repeat 2 more times. Sc 3, sl st 1. Bind off.
Weave in ends.
In the first round if you make 10 double crochet with solid and 4 with textured you end up with 14 stitches so you’re not back to the other color to pick up when you double crochet into 7 stitches?? Am I reading it wrong?
Be sure that you are dropping the loop of one yarn, and moving to the next. They are worked separately so the counts don’t need to line up.
Is there a tutorial to this design? I have tried it several times even with explanation above and still can’t get it……..
Hi Teresa,
Sorry to hear you are having a hard time. So far, this is all the instructions that I have created for this pattern. Where at in the pattern are you getting caught at? It feels odd to keep the two different yarns going with a live loop, but only have your crochet hook working one at a time while the other is waiting to be picked back up again.
Cathy
I’m not understanding the 2nd round of this pattern.
Hi Kimberly, Thank you for letting me know. I have sent you an email to the address you provided. Hopefully it helps, but please let me know if you have any further questions.
Why not reply here so the rest of us who don’t understand it can get the answer?
For the second round I am guessing that she was referring to the step:
2) With textured yarn: Create a slip knot on hook. Sl st into beginning ch loop. Ch 2 (counts as a dc). 3 dc in beginning loop.
In the top of the first dc of solid yarn 2dc with the textured yarn. 2dc in each of the next 7 sts.
If you look at the image of the scrubby flat you can see in the center there is half that is the solid yarn (started in the 1st step), and this step starts the section of the textured portion.
First remove your hook from the solid yarn you were using, but leave a large enough loop to come back to it and work more.
With a slip knot on your hook, sl st around the beginning chain portion that created the center circle you were just working double chains around. Chain 2 to create the first double crochet of the textured yarn. Then, double crochet 3 more around that beginng loop.
For the next step you work 2 double crochets in each of the following 8 solid yarn stitches. This begins the spiral of the textured yarn around the solid yarn from step 1.
You continue on with the pattern to work a portion of the solid yarn around the textured you created in this step, then the textured around that, and so on for each round.
Im not finding the email

Yep, proud to be the inspiration behind this set of scrubby designs. They are fun and pretty cool! Our girls love them!!
