Crochet Half Log Cabin Dish Scrubby

Back in 2021 I posted the Crochet Quilter’s Dish Scrubby pattern, and since then I have absolutely loved using it. For me it is the perfect size for washing dishes, and I have been impressed with how well the yarns have held up to all the wear and tear. Not to mention the bright colors always makes me smile when I pick it up to do the dreaded and never ending dish washing.

Now, after two and a half years, I have been inspired to make another one based off of it. On the previous pattern I made four half log cabin blocks, and then joined them together. This pattern is just one larger block all on its own to give maximum scrubby material on two edges. A perfect edge to easily scrub off burnt or dried on food from pots and dishes.

This pattern works up quickly and easily. It is perfect to make for gifts, or for yourself to make doing dishes less of a chore. Who doesn’t like a bright and cheerful scrubby to use! Better yet, one that is hand made!

Yarn 1: Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie  Yarn – Category 4/Medium – 100% Cotton – 3.5 oz/100 g, 153 yds/140 meters –  1 skein – (get it here)

Yarn 2: Red Heart Scrubby Yarn – Category 4/Medium – 100% Polyester – 3 oz/85 g, 78 yds/71 meters –  1 skein – (get it here)

Crochet Hook – I (5.5mm)
Needle

Finished scrubby dimension = 5 ¾” x 5 ¾”

Gauge: 4” x 4” = 16 sc x 16 rows

Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Dc – double crochet

Log Cabin Motif:
With yarn 1:  Ch 2. 

Row 1:  In 2nd ch from hook (sc, dc, sc).  

Row 2:  Ch 1 and turn.  Sc in 1st sc.  (Sc, dc, sc) in the dc.  Sc in the last sc of row.  

Row 3:  Ch 1 and turn.  Sc in each sc of previous row.  In the dc of previous row (sc, dc, sc).  Sc in each of the remaining sts of the row.

Repeat Row 3 three more times, changing to yarn 2 on last sc pull through.  There will be 6 sc on each side of the dc.

With yarn 2 repeat row 3 five times, changing to yarn 1 on last sc pull through.  There will be 11 sc on each side of the dc.

With yarn 1 repeat row 3 five times, changing to yarn 2 on last sc pull through.  There will be 16 sc on each side of the dc.

With yarn 2 repeat row 3 five times, changing to yarn 1 on last sc pull through.  There will be 21 sc on each side of the dc.

Ch 1 and sc evenly around the scrubby, make 3 sc in each corner.  Slip stitch in first sc.  Bind off.
