For the previous years I have been wearing my Weekend Cardigan during the winter as my go to everyday outer layer. This year I wanted another cardigan that will be warm and cozy just like it, but out of acrylic so when my daughters lay against me they don’t complain about the wool scratching them. So, the Fireside Cadigan pattern started.
Using two separate stitch patterns this cardigan works up really fast. The contrast between the herringbone stitch of the body to the motifs with a puff for the edging creates an attractive design that is easier to get than you think. The category 4 Lion Brand Heartland yarn creates the fabric quickly, and the stitch structures create a fluffy fabric that is cozy and warm.

Like I’m sure we all do, as soon as I finished the edgings but hadn’t woven in the ends I tried it on…and didn’t take it off. It was so comforting, like being wrapped in a gentle hug. Or, like being all snuggled in with my favorite blanket. And, in all honesty, I wore it several days like that with the ends sticking out. I just didn’t want to take it off to weave in ends and be completely finished.
This has very quickly become my new favorite make. I am even thinking about making a sweater version. Then I can be really happy and warm by the fireside.

I think this is one my favorite of all the projects you’ve done. Love the contrast of the border & absolutely love the color. I, too, am bothered by wool so am glad to see how it works up using acrylic. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you!!!
